As the 5,000th Lightning built, it was painted in this bright red scheme and named "Yippee" for factory celebrations. It was subsequently repainted in standard USAAF markings, and delivered as 44-23296 to the 5th Air Force, 475th Fighter Group, 431st Fighter Squadron USAAF during June 1944. It was damaged beyond repair in December 1944 and scrapped.
